The boys had allegedly plotted to kill her by slitting her throat before gunning her down and leaving her for dead in a muddy canal during weeks of planning
The boy, 16, had allegedly colluded with another in making horrific plans to end Deserae Turner's life in the weeks before the shooting last month.
Local authorities in Utah, America, revealed the boys had originally plotted to slit her throat before gunning her down and leaving her for dead near a canal.
While Deserae suffered horrific head injuries, the teenager remains in hospital and was able to provide a testimony to police.
Utah police said the boy, who pointed and shot the gun into the back of Deserae's head, admitted he was annoyed she had been texting and messaging through Snapchat.
Both boys have been charged with attempted murder.
In a testimony given from her hospital bed, Deserae revealed she had been in a muddy canal with both boys in the moments before the shooting.
Police said she had also texted another friend earlier that day claiming she was "being picked on" by two older boys who wanted to fight.
They added the accused shooter had hidden the gun from the girl in order to kill her "mercifully".
According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, Cache County Sheriff Deputy Brian Groves said: "The teen said it was the most merciful way.
"He was supposed to slit her throat. He indicated to me that he couldn't do it."
Seconds before the alleged shooting, the teens are said to have nodded to one another before pulling the trigger as the girl turned around and began walking away.
A judge is currently deciding whether the case will be heard in a juvenile or adult court.
