Sex workers have launched a new campaign backing Nicola’s Sturgeon’s plan for a new independence referendum.
Sex Workers For Yes says it supports the plan as a way of protecting the many EU nationals who work in the sex industry in Scotland form a hard UK Brexit.
But the new group has also said it is against the SNP resolution that was passed at its spring conference in Aberdeen at the weekend backing the so-called “Nordic model” of legislation on the sex industry.

Holly, a sex worker and independence supporter, said: “Many sex workers supported independence in 2014, and many will do so again when the next referendum comes.

Another member of the group, who goes by the name Alec, said: “I campaigned for independence in 2014, and I am heartbroken that my friends in the SNP were unable to persuade enough of their colleagues to put our safety first.

“The way a society treats the most vulnerable says a lot about it. I cannot believe that exposing our workplaces to criminalisation and violence is really the ‘settled will’ of the SNP, nor surely does it represent the inclusive and tolerant future they speak about.”
Another member, Rachel, said:“I campaigned heavily for independence in 2014; I was your colleague in Women For Independence.
“The New Zealand model has proven that it has improved relationships between sex workers and the police.
“We need rights, not rescue.”
